Thalo is the pseudonym for Jack Harbo, an American musician who is disrupting the presumed conventions of genre and pretense. Jack and his sister, Paige- who lends vocals to some tracks- are old souls sporting modern sparks. Thalo blends familiar constructs and exciting innovation with the lost, wandering tone of a generation of dissatisfaction. All while maintaining wry humor, and inviting the listener to laugh together at a world that seems hell-bent on falling to pieces.
The new release, “i mean.” is, in a lot of ways, about the difficulties of communication. It seeks to parse out the differences between romanticism and optimism, and to acknowledge the loneliness that has become so potent for those of us that struggle just to meet the bare minimum. It explores the micros and macros of our modern world, all with climbing, sliding melodies to remind us of the inherent joy of music– to remind us to have fun along whatever road we walk.
