Novele – Furthest

Novele is the brainchild of 26-year-old singer/songwriter/producer Austin Fitzpatrick. From an early age, Austin was surrounded by music. His uncle, John Cale, is a founding member of Velvet Underground and his Aunt was a major label executive for
most her life. Austin’s father was also a musician and DJ and raised him on soul, R&B and Hip-Hop music.

Born in Mission Viejo and raised in Corona, Austin has a deep affinity for Southern California and its culture. Some of his earliest inspirations were California artists No Doubt, Dr. Dre and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. From there he ventured further into the Alternative and Hip-Hop realms like Run DMC, Bloc Party and Gorillaz (specifically their album Demon Days).

At age 12, Austin taught himself the drums and electric guitar and began to make his own music. He then started to play in a handful of bands and joined music programs at his junior high school. His passion for music only expanded as he entered high school. At age 14, he formed a band with his friends Kyle Harward and Jeff Riggs –
Novele.

Novele began as a garage-rock band in the Inland Empire of Southern California. In early years, the trio played countless house parties and shows in and around their hometown. This was mainly experimental music in the vein of As Tall As Lions. They then faced turbulent times due to a variety of mental health and funding issues and had to take a break from each other. Kyle and Jeff have since returned to the group, but Austin remains the principal songwriter.

During the time apart, Austin continued to grow as a musician, songwriter and producer. He began to focus more on creating hip-hop beats for rappers. However, his love for punk and pop music never left and he began to fuse the genres into one.

This is where Novele’s current sound stems from. A fusion of punk, hip-hop and pop that form a true alternative style. The songs and lyrics pull from Austin’s personal experiences and struggles with mental health and overcoming depression which encompasses the deep emotion and raw passion that fuel the music.

Now 10 years later, Novele is set to release a debut demo album on September 14th. The album contains ideas from the early band days (“After The War”, “Rubies”) as well as newer tracks that Austin composed on his own (“T.S.”, “Tears”). The album is a journey through the tempestuous yet beautiful lifespan of the band. Enjoy.

Markus Mann

Alt-soul pop artist Markus Mann has released his engaging and eclectic debut album Fake News. The album contains a collection of songs with some designed to get you blissfully moving on the dancefloor while others have you chilling back and reflecting on the fast-paced and cluttered world that surrounds us.

Markus Mann’s journey leading up to this release has been one of both change and discovery. Having been raised in both Trinidad and the United States, Markus Mann was exposed to a wide variety of music since birth. From the thumping rhythms of Soca, to the distorted guitars of grunge, Markus absorbed this eclectic range of sounds,  creating for himself a rich library of musical influences he draws upon when creating his own songs.

Shaqdi – Colorless

Shaqdi

London-based Scandinavian newcomer Shaqdi is bringing a fresh, soulful sound to R&B that can’t quite be categorised, yet is welcomingly familiar – drawing influences from the American urban scene including artists like Smino, Masego & Xavier Omar.

She spent her childhood learning both piano and violin from age four, leading her to make a move to Stockholm in her adult life where she studied music at Kulturama as a means to develop her songwriting and production.

I know what I’m doing, and I know what I want, and I’m ready to let people in and listen to what I wanna say with my music.” Shaqdi plans to release a number of singles alongside creatively authentic videos filmed with her mates around East London, giving a first hand look into the life and lyrical meaning of who she is. Grandson – Overdose

Grandson

Grandson is a 24 year old alternative artist hailing from Toronto, Canada. Born in New Jersey, he relocated to the cultural melting pot of Toronto at a young age, and grew up surrounded by music ranging from jazz to rock and roll to rap, dancehall and electronic. He began playing guitar and writing songs as a teenager, and experimented with hip hop and trap production.

Adopting the Grandson moniker while living in LA, he met guitarist and collaborator Kevin Hissink and dove deeply into rock influences such as Rage Against the Machine, Nirvana and Led Zeppelin, while also listening to rap and soul music emerging out of Toronto as well as alternative acts such as Twenty One Pilots and Hiatus Kaiyote. He found a small community of musicians to work and perform with in Los Angeles. The live set creates a frantic, mosh pit inducing cathartic release of energy for concert goers, influenced by early punk and grunge music.

Grandson’s lyrics confront the most pressing issues of his generation through his songwriting, such as governmental transparency, economic accountability, climate change and social justice, giving these topics a soundtrack with a genuine sense of urgency and frustration. The music also touches on adolescence, relationships, and the insecurities and difficulties of growing up.
