Hedara – Skin Deep

Since leaving the BRIT Academy in 2016 along with Freya Ridings, Hedara – aka Scarlet Billham – nearly died by falling into a diabetic coma. Little did Scarlet know that she had type 1 diabetes until she was omitted to hospital.

This led Scarlet to reevaluate her music and scrap everything to start again. Over the past 16 months she has been working with a number of songwriters and soon found a connection with Carey Willetts (Dua Lipa, Freya Ridings, Dermot Kennedy) who helped co-write and produce 8 tracks, 3 of which form the foundations to her Debut EP – Slow.

Hedara received excellent support from Radio 2 via Jo Whiley’s new music show and appeared on a number of Spotify, Apple and Deezer playlists. She is back with her second single Skin Deep, which is all about finding your strength.

‘You’re the one finally taking control in a relationship where someone has tried to play you like a puppet on a string, now you’re the one calling the shots.

I wanted an anthemic feel to the song, so I took a lot of inspiration from female musicians that I admire like Florence and the Machine, Jessie Ware and Dua Lipa.’

She’ll be supporting Tom Speight at Bush Hall on the 21st November
