Novele – Furthest

Novele is the brainchild of 26-year-old singer/songwriter/producer Austin Fitzpatrick. From an early age, Austin was surrounded by music. His uncle, John Cale, is a founding member of Velvet Underground and his Aunt was a major label executive for
most her life. Austin’s father was also a musician and DJ and raised him on soul, R&B and Hip-Hop music.

Born in Mission Viejo and raised in Corona, Austin has a deep affinity for Southern California and its culture. Some of his earliest inspirations were California artists No Doubt, Dr. Dre and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. From there he ventured further into the Alternative and Hip-Hop realms like Run DMC, Bloc Party and Gorillaz (specifically their album Demon Days).

At age 12, Austin taught himself the drums and electric guitar and began to make his own music. He then started to play in a handful of bands and joined music programs at his junior high school. His passion for music only expanded as he entered high school. At age 14, he formed a band with his friends Kyle Harward and Jeff Riggs –
Novele.

Novele began as a garage-rock band in the Inland Empire of Southern California. In early years, the trio played countless house parties and shows in and around their hometown. This was mainly experimental music in the vein of As Tall As Lions. They then faced turbulent times due to a variety of mental health and funding issues and had to take a break from each other. Kyle and Jeff have since returned to the group, but Austin remains the principal songwriter.

During the time apart, Austin continued to grow as a musician, songwriter and producer. He began to focus more on creating hip-hop beats for rappers. However, his love for punk and pop music never left and he began to fuse the genres into one.

This is where Novele’s current sound stems from. A fusion of punk, hip-hop and pop that form a true alternative style. The songs and lyrics pull from Austin’s personal experiences and struggles with mental health and overcoming depression which encompasses the deep emotion and raw passion that fuel the music.

Now 10 years later, Novele is set to release a debut demo album on September 14th. The album contains ideas from the early band days (“After The War”, “Rubies”) as well as newer tracks that Austin composed on his own (“T.S.”, “Tears”). The album is a journey through the tempestuous yet beautiful lifespan of the band. Enjoy.

NewWaves – In The Clouds

NewWaves are an Alternative rock band, founded in the fall of 2015, from Stockholm, Sweden. Tim Sundström (guitar, backing vocals), Christoffer Bellonius (guitar), Erik Johansson (drum set, percussion) and our new vocalist (since a week ago) Ejnar Örjes.
NewWaves make alternative rock with influences from pop, punk and electronica. Everything started when Tim Sundström had been on a tour with his last band, full of inspiration and commitment to music. Heavily influenced by Imagine Dragons he wanted to make something of his own.
The reason why they are doing this is because they love making and performing music, but more than that, they want to be able to provide value to other people through their music. NewWaves want to be able to make people feel like they are enjoying the moment, despite what problems or difficulties they may have. They want to be able to make people of all different ethnicities, financial and cultural backgrounds feel relief and enjoyment, if only for just a moment, in a world that is full of stress and problems.”
They released a single named “Experience” in 2016 with a music video as well as an EP called “The Things We Do” in 2017. In the process of releasing the EP we released a single called “In The Clouds” and a music Video for that song.
“Right now we’re in the process of writing new music and teaching everything to our new vocalist Ejnar, getting him completely comfortable and happy in the band. We are planning our future and brainstorming ideas on what to do next”.
We are planning on having a photoshoot with the new line-up to present Ejnar to the world. We are also planning to record new songs in the near future, which will be awesome. We will soon be booking new shows to play.

Concrete Caverns – Open Your Minds

Concrete Caverns

“With their raw riffs and politicised lyrics, Concrete Caverns epitomise the attitude and pure essence of punk music perfectly. Their sharp licks of spirited punk rawness blend with a riotous youthfulness, giving the band a sparked demeanour.”
– Sahera Walker, Some Might Say Zine, Issue #2

Concrete Caverns are a London-based four-piece punk rock band. Endless gigging and writing since formation in October 2014 has lead the band to secure main stage festival slots at Village Green Festival and Wilkestock Charity Music Festival. They’ve also had the pleasure of supporting Otherkin at their biggest London headline show at Camden Assembly.  Their debut single, ‘Unforgivable’, was released on October 27 2017, and was instantly playlisted by Indie Central Music and Vibe 107.6FM. Ahead of 2018, it was added to Indie Central Music’s ‘Sound of 2017’ playlist.

Concrete Caverns second single, ‘Open Your Minds’, was released on January 31 prior to two Independent Venue Week 2018 performances. On Saturday February 1, they supported Essex based band, Asylums, at Chelmsford’s Bassment Bar. Art Will Fall gave a rave review of their set, stating, “Concrete Caverns are finding their place with their exhilarating live performance, raw sound and brutal honesty.”

The band have also been championed by Indie Underground and Northern Exposure, the latter listing them as one of their “25 Upcoming Bands You Need To Know”.

Grandson – Overdose

Grandson

Grandson is a 24 year old alternative artist hailing from Toronto, Canada. Born in New Jersey, he relocated to the cultural melting pot of Toronto at a young age, and grew up surrounded by music ranging from jazz to rock and roll to rap, dancehall and electronic. He began playing guitar and writing songs as a teenager, and experimented with hip hop and trap production.

Adopting the Grandson moniker while living in LA, he met guitarist and collaborator Kevin Hissink and dove deeply into rock influences such as Rage Against the Machine, Nirvana and Led Zeppelin, while also listening to rap and soul music emerging out of Toronto as well as alternative acts such as Twenty One Pilots and Hiatus Kaiyote. He found a small community of musicians to work and perform with in Los Angeles. The live set creates a frantic, mosh pit inducing cathartic release of energy for concert goers, influenced by early punk and grunge music.

Grandson’s lyrics confront the most pressing issues of his generation through his songwriting, such as governmental transparency, economic accountability, climate change and social justice, giving these topics a soundtrack with a genuine sense of urgency and frustration. The music also touches on adolescence, relationships, and the insecurities and difficulties of growing up.

(Sociopathic Freedom Pop)

This Trio met in France (Ms. Goldsponge, the singer, met Cantin, guitarist, opening his show in Nice mid-tour). After playing guitars together until the sun broke, the two musically met throughout Europe during the next seasons, enduring bizarre label parties and fancy affairs together with their complimentary playful and devilish attitudes. The creative affair was kept alive through Montreal’s winter, where the trio was made complete—collaborating with CristobalTapia, producer/beat-maker both. The explosive energy delivered, in a fluid span of three weeks the skeleton for their record formed.

The songs are cinematic novelettes bent in morbidity with lyrics daring to create sing-song opportunity around issues typically ignored in the world of vocal composition/expression: Song topics range from Priests with Young Boys, Holocausts of everyone with the surname “Smith”, Queen Elizabeth (who, after bottles of wine, mistakingly was made the stand-in for Catherine The Great, as the song outlines the legendary bestial tale of Catherine’s affair with her beloved horse) and the tune CocoaPapatee, a mythical island where anarchy reigns, and “old men sleep with little girls” and people shoot multiple guns, and pollute without penalty. Through the whimsicality of the record’s content, something more profound is suggested: the idea of Sociopathic Freedom Pop.

“Blind Drivers have taken their influences and moulded them into smart, savvy indie-rock of their own making, with a little sprinkle of angular, almost post-punk thrown in for good measure.” – Backstreet Mafia

“I can only see this band doing more good things, as they can only better with time, and I think this EP exposed no weaknesses of theirs at all, because I doubt they have any. Get behind them, and get them out there…” – Words-4-music
